So, I work in the animation industry here in Los Angeles... right now I work at Disney Television Animation as the director of a show that hasn't premiered yet.
You'll be hearing my goofy career, but for the time being, let me just say that if you're planning on getting into the animation industry, be aware that it's REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY HARD!!!
Everyone I know works these ridiculously long hours (myself included although things have gotten a little more normal in recent months) and we're all always burned out.
In case you're interested (and why would you be?) I've worked on The Fairly Oddparents (director, storyboard artist), Invader Zim (character designer), My Life As A Teenage Robot (writer, directer, storyboard artist), South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut (animator), The Wild Thornberrys (storyboard artist) and a handfull of other stuff.
I wrote, produced, directed and designed a pilot for Nickelodeon about seven years ago called "The Tantrum"... it occasionally airs at 3 AM on Nicktoons TV (I think) when they re-run season 3 of Oh Yeah! Cartoons! (which is almost never).
Apart from my animation job, I'm trying to put together a series of paintings, a comic book and a children's book - all of which will be shamelessly plugged on this here blog.
February has been a particularly draining month...

Hey John, I can't believe it took you this long to make a blog. A Blog is the perfect forum for your RANTS.
I like this picture the best, protruding vein and all. Oh by the way, you're protruding vein reminds me of the movie "PI". So you can go ahead and say that your "genius" is the reason for it.
By the way,
Shut the fuck up!
I really enjoyed "The Tantrum" when I caught it. It was pretty cool. I was surprised when I found out that you had also done the voice. Again: equally cool.

Man... I agree with the first comment made ....
You should shut up... you write way too much! I tried to get to reading this blog and then my ADD kicked in! But if it gets you through the day then go ahead and write! But have a little optimistic view about things sometimes. Things are not so grey as you think. Smoke some pot and have a beer sometimes! RELAX!
No one said you had to read it all at once...
There's no such thing as 'too much' when the sole purpose of the blog is self-indulgence. If anything on this blog is even marginally entertaining then it's PURELY coincidental.
Hey, Jeaux - thanks for the compliments. Managing to actually SEE "The Tantrum" on TV is nothing short of miraculous since it was on the lowest-rated, ill-fated season of "Oh Yeah! Cartoons".
Honestly, though, at this point that cartoon is an embarassment to me now. Not because it's 'bed' (necessarily) but more because I thought it was SUCH a big deal at the time.
Everyone should go to Jeaux's site... it's extremely cool. Rad artwork.
By the way, in reference to the first post, I didn't really 'make' this blog at all... Heather Chavez set it up for me and now I just babble and upload lots of stuff.
Holly is an angry bitch.
Oh, and she's partially to blame for 'The Tantrum' since she was the color stylist on that show. It was her first job as a full-fledged color stylist... NOW her talents are in high demand both as a writer AND color stylist. And look at how grateful she is... touching, aint it?
Most of my pessimism is the result of knowing how great things COULD be, but having to settle for them the way they ARE.
Fortunately what this has taught me is to - just as CN up there just suggested - take pleasure in the little things, cause the bigger picture is too horriffic to look at.
